50s Retro Shoot

Granted, this shoot was a few days back, but it's about time that i tell you about my experience.
The idea of doing a retro shoot was in my (Markus) head for a while, but sometimes it's a good thing to give stuff some time to develop. This has some advantages. For example, you can finalize ideas and reflect on some things. You know that yourself for sure, at first you find something really cool and once you let it sit aside for a few days, week or even months, you suddenly see things from a different angle.
I was checking the Model-Kartei website for a suiting model when i found Regina, after a mail contact the first date for a meeting was set. We agreed on meeting up for a casual briefing to talk about our ideas. Before that i researched the whole fifties-style on the internet and took note of a few things significant for that era. Among other things were the following:
- tight-fitted, calf-long skirts
- wide skirts and petticoats
- dotted fabrics
- Ballerinas
- Shoes with high and thin heels
As well as:
- Cherry Lips
- Updos
- Ponytails
- Loops
- Buttonearrings
- Large sunglasses
- Flowers in one's hair
Besides clothing and accessories the makeup should suit the theme as well:
- rather discreet makeup aside from eyeliner and lipstick
As a lightsource i used a beautydish for most of the shots. Depending on the backdrop and image style I used other lightformers as well.
The shooting was brilliant and brought great fun to the model and me! After changing the outfit 3 times we had all the photos we wanted.
With a bit of luck that blog entry will have a few helpful suggestions. I found that sometimes a few notes is enough to turn your ideas into reality.
