16th lightGIANTS Friday night shoot. “Looners”
I have seen a few photos around the internet taken in a studio with balloons but when looking at most of them I thought they only out in 50% effort and needed to fill more space with balloons. Last year I was photographing a wedding and one of the guests had a extremely large bunch of balloons, there was a few kids that kept hiding among the balloons and every now and then you would see a hand or a head sticking out. All I could think was..... "I have to do this in the studio". So we blew up 400 black and white balloons and started to shoot.
The lighting concept was to keep the shadows and contrast that separated all the objects in the photo. When you have a lot of items the same colour in your photos you need to control the angel of the lighting so that shadows still fall where you require them. What we didn't think of was how much static was involved, it played havoc with the models hair. Next time ill be a bit more prepared.
We only used 2 different lighting set-ups. But they couldn't have been more different. The first set up was a large octo-box from directly above the models pointing down, using the balloons to reflect light back up for a bit of fill light. The second set-up was 2 strip lights set horizontally on both sides of the studio, and set down at eye level.

Das Shooting hat sehr viel Spaß gemacht! Tolles Video!

Hallo, wie ich sehe hattet Ihr großen Spaß beim Shooting. Da wär ich gern dabei gewesen. Die Fotos sind alle sehr schön geworden und trotz des eingeschränkten Spielraums sehr variantenreich geworden. Ich hatte mich bereits sehr gefreut, dass Ihr ein Loonershooting wagen wolltet. Allerdings frage ich mich, inwieweit tatsächlich das Motto Looner also Ballonfetisch statt normalen einem Luftballonsetting ausgegeben war. Eventuell wäre dann nämlich das Thema verfehlt. Denn die Fotos sind zwar gut, aber für einen Looner doch eher langweilig. Wo habt ihr denn den Begriff aufgeschnappt? Man kann nämlich viel mehr mit Ballons machen als es bei den meisten Bildern auf Flickr der Fall ist, auf denen man ein paar mit Helium am Faden schweben hat oder wie bei diesem Shooting Models ein Bad darin nehmen. Was Loonern Spaß macht, ist doch sie bis zum Platzen aufzupusten, drauf zu sitzen oder zu reiten, drauf zu springen und zu zertreten, reinkneifen, kaputtbeißen, zerreißen oder (friedfertiger) in Riesen hinein zu klettern und vieles mehr. Aber nichts desto trotz sind die Aufnahmen aus fotografischer Sicht dennoch sehr schön.
Falls ihr soviel Spaß hattet, dass ihr nochmal ein Shooting mit dem Thema macht, dann schaut Euch doch als Looner-Anregung clubsteffi.com an, um mal einen deutsches Studio zu nennen (über das demnächst auch eine Reportage auf Arte läuft). Eure Luftballons waren eigentlich aus Looner-Sicht leider auch viel zu klein. Hi Fixknips.Thanks for your comment. The name looners was only used for a bit of fun. Originally the balloons that I ordered from e-bay as xxl were way to small for the shoot that I have originally planed
